Let's begin

Click on the Apple menu.

Click on System Preferences...

Click on the icon labeled Network.

Select the modem port that you are using. Most computers use an Internal Modem.

Select the TCP/IP tab

You should not need to type anything in here. OS X is based off of the BSD distribution of Unix. As a result, OS-X has a far more robust implementation of Internet protocols than prior Macintosh operating systems that required you to manually specify name server settings. These settings should be obtained automatically whenever you connect to the Internet. (Note that these fields are listed as optional)

If you can dial-up to the Internet, but you find that you can't go anywhere once you are connected, then type in the following numbers for Domain name servers:

Name servers
Primary DNS 206.224.92.10
Secondary DNS 199.170.88.10

...and then type thegateway.net for Search Domains

Click on the PPP tab.

Type in the correct dial-up phone number for the telephone number:

Dial-up Access Numbers
Listing of Numbers Click to see the list of numbers

Close the network configuration window.

Your computer will automatically dial-up to Internet Gateway to establish an Internet connection using the connection settings that you have provided whenever an Internet application is used. You will see a connection status window appear as you are getting connected. If you see a status window that tells you that you are connected to the Internet (with an option to disconnect), then you should be able to surf the Internet.

Some Internet applications have a work offline mode that may prevent an automatic connection to the Internet when using these applications. To get out of the "work offline" mode, open your Internet application, select File and click on Work offline if it has a check mark next to it or select Work Online if you see this option instead.

If you can dial-up and get connected to the Internet, but you are experiencing problems once you are connected, please call tech support.

You are done.

Click on the apple menu in the top left-hand corner of the screen.

Select Control Panels

Select PPP or Remote Access

Under name, type in the user name that you chose when you signed up for Internet Gateway Internet service. Your user name would be the first part of your Internet Gateway e-mail address before the "@thegateway.net" part of your e-mail address. The total length of your user name will be 8 letters or less in all small (lower case) letters.

Your password is case sensitive. If you need to type My5eCre+ in order to gain access, then my5ecre+ will not work. Please make sure that caps-lock is not enabled. (Or make sure that the num-lock is enabled if your password contains numbers.)

For number, type in the dial-up number that you will need to connect to the Internet from your area:

Dial-up Access Numbers
Listing of all phone numbers Click here for a list of Numbers

Close the window.

Your computer will automatically dial-up to Internet Gateway to establish an Internet connection using the connection settings that you have provided whenever an Internet application is used.
